Fayette County Public Schools to Add New Security Measures

Fayette County Public Schools will add three new security features for the 2019-2020 year. The features include security vestibules, a visitor management system, and a bus stop mobile application.

Fayette County Public Schools are adding security measures to their campuses in order to increase their overall safety heading into the 2019-2020 school year.

The schools will be adding three important security features to increase the safety of the school, as well as give both students and parents peace of mind.

The school is installing security vestibules at all school entrances for all schools. Some of the schools already have them installed, but the ones that do not already have them will have the vestibules retrofitted for them. These schools include all five middle schools, Whitewater High School, Starr’s Mill High School, Sandy Creek High School, North Fayette Elementary School, Huddleston Elementary School, and Fayetteville Elementary School.

Each vestibule will have two or more sets of doors. Once a student, parent, or visitor is granted entrance, they will enter the vestibule. From there, they will sign into the new visitor management system to be allowed access into the school. This allows for two security checks to be given before the individual is allowed access.

All the schools will be installing a new visitor management system. Once guests have gained access to the vestibule, they will sign-in using a self-service kiosk, which will then scan the driver’s license of the visitor, and conduct a quick background check. Then, the system will print a name badge for the guest to wear while they’re at the school, and with the system, administrators can quickly see who is inside the building at all times.

The third security measure the school will take is the new Safe Stop App, a mobile application that will estimate the exact time when the school bus will show up, as well as eliminate any fears parents may have.

Through the app, parents can see the real-time estimates of when their child will be picked up and dropped off by the bus. The app is available for IOS and Android devices.
