Multiple People Wounded in Shooting at DFW-Area High School

The suspected gunman in a shooting at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas, is in custody after he turned himself into police on Wednesday afternoon, according to local news sources. Police say the shooting began as a fight between a student and another individual at about 9:15 a.m. CT on Wednesday. The student then withdrew a firearm and fired an undisclosed number of shots.

Three people were hospitalized, two with gunshot wounds. A 15-year-old male remains in critical condition, a 25-year-old male is in good condition, and a teenage girl is also in good condition and will be discharged soon.

The gunman has been identified as Timothy George Simpkins, 18, who turned himself in on Wednesday afternoon with his attorney present. Simpkins has been arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police have also recovered the .45 caliber gun. Simpkins is currently in jail on a $75,000 bond.

“We have had some communication with his attorney,” said Arlington Police Asst. Chief Kevin Kolbye. “He did report to an attorney. He was talking to our homicide detectives. He drove him to our police station; we took him into custody.”

Update: 12 p.m. CT, 10/6/21

Local news outlets report that four people were injured in a shooting at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas, on Wednesday, Oct. 5. The suspect, identified by authorities as 18-year-old Timothy George Simpkins, remains at large.

Arlington Assistant Police Chief Kevin Kolbye reported that the shooting started during a classroom fight. Kolbye said that the four people injured include two students who were shot and one adult who fell, suffered minor injuries, and declined treatment. Three students were hospitalized.

“This is not a random act of violence,” said Kolbye. “This is not somebody attacking our schools … We believe this was a student who got into a fight.”

The school’s lockdown was lifted at 11 a.m. CT, and school buses would take students to a reunification center at the nearby Center for Performing Arts.

An active shooter event has been reported at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas. Arlington police have confirmed that multiple people were wounded. The Mansfield Independent School District has confirmed that the school is in lockdown while law enforcement investigates the situation. Students and staff are currently locked in their classrooms and offices, and no visitors are currently being admitted.

According to local news, the district has selected a reunification site and will bus students to the location once they receive the all-clear.

Arlington Police confirmed on social media that they are on scene and are performing a methodical search alongside ATF, Mansfield ISD Police, Mansfield Police, Grand Prairie Police and other agencies.
