Visitors are no longer allowed to walk into school buildings freely after school check-in times or before school check-out times. The entrance of each school now has a video call system allowing front office staff to buzz visitors in at their discretion.

Visitors are asked to press the CALL button on the video call system located at the entrance of each school. A staff member in the office can speak to the visitor via that system. When a visitor is buzzed in, the door will click and they can enter the building and go directly to the front office.

The school system will post an instructional video about the system on its website.

“As always, it is one of our top priorities to maintain a safe and secure learning environment for our students,” said Dr. Janine Wilson, director of schools. “It is never our intent to keep parents and community members from feeling welcome, and we want you to visit; however, it has become necessary to take extra precautions to prevent unwanted visitors from gaining access to the children.”

Staff, faculty and law enforcement can enter school buildings using the card reader included on the call system.
